Ariston Saltillo is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Direct Material Buyer to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work cross-functionally, optimize material availability, and support a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Purchasing Management & Negotiation
- Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers for assigned commodities, including steel, packaging, brass, aluminum, stamping, laser-cut components, machined parts, and critical engineered components.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, quality standards, and delivery schedules using Cost Breakdown Analysis (CBD) as the primary methodology.
- Manage significant annual spend volumes (approximately USD $3-5M, depending on role scope) with clear accountability for budget variances.
- Identify, quantify, and implement cost reduction initiatives, targeting annual savings of 3-5%.
2. Analysis & Strategic Sourcing
- Monitor commodity markets and pricing trends, including LME, COMEX, and relevant market intelligence, to forecast cost impacts and support negotiations with data-driven insights.
- Track Planned Price Variance (PPV) against actual performance and prepare executive reports on variances.
- Conduct supplier benchmarking, multi-source quotation analysis, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) evaluations.
- Partner with Planning and Finance teams on demand forecasting and annual budgeting cycles (STD/Budget).
3. Supplier Management
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with critical and high-risk suppliers, proactively escalating and resolving issues.
- Support supplier quality assessments (QAA) and basic supplier audits.
- Negotiate complex commercial terms, including prepayment vs. COD arrangements, warranties, lead times, and special purchasing conditions.
4. Systems & Tools
- Utilize SAP MM for purchase order creation and maintenance, goods receipt tracking, and variance management.
- Leverage advanced Excel capabilities for data analysis, forecasting, dashboards, pivot tables, and complex formulas.
- Access and analyze commodity market data and pricing intelligence platforms.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of purchasing experience, preferably in manufacturing and direct materials procurement.
- At least 3 years of experience managing commodity categories.
- Advanced negotiation and CBD skills, with demonstrated success in supplier negotiations and documented cost savings.
- Intermediate to Advanced SAP MM knowledge, including purchase orders, goods receipt processes, and change management.
- Intermediate commodity and pricing analysis skills, including market index interpretation and quantitative cost justification.
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, data analysis, reporting, and visualization tools. Power Query experience is preferred.
- Business-fluent English, with the ability to communicate effectively with international suppliers and stakeholders.
- Advanced conflict resolution skills, particularly in supplier performance, quality, and delivery-related situations.
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities across diverse commodities, urgent requirements, and tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the automotive, aerospace, or heavy manufacturing industries.
- Experience with sourcing platforms such as Coupa, Ariba, or similar systems.
- Professional certifications such as APICS, SCMP, CPSM, or equivalent.
- Experience managing both domestic and international suppliers, with a solid understanding of regional logistics and supply chain operations.
